We were able to purchase this plant stand and the quilt rack that you will also be able to see on the site together as one lot. This was a good lot to buy as a starting point and hopefully we can elevate both pieces will a little bit of work. We are just starting on this crafting journey and this plant stand might be the first one, where upon inspection, there is not a whole lot of work to be done to get this plant stand in a good restored order.
This is before cleaning and usually some little problem will show itself. Luckily for us, we did not see any issues before or after cleaning the stand. This is, hopefully, going to be one of first great success.
After looking it over we cleaned it using water and white vinegar. This cleaning gave a better look to the wood then we first got the piece.
The wood had a nice shine to it and the cleaning got rid of the dullness. The dust and dirt were gone and the wood looked very good without any additional work. However, we are wanting to improve on the stand with just a little additional work.
We decided to just stain the wood and not try and change too much. We both really liked the plant stand as is. We just wanted to give it a nice new stain and make the color of the wood pop as much as possible.
We used the pre-stain and wood stain shown above. I used gloves and a staining cloth to apply the stain. The pre-stain is applied and wiped to remove any access pre-stain. I then waited 15 minutes to let the pre-stain set into the wood before applying the wood stain. After applying the wood stain, I let the plant stand sit overnight to dry. The next day I applied a clear coat to give the plant stand protection against potential water being spilled on the plant stand. The clear coat should help to keep the plant stand looking good for a long time.
This is the finished plant stand. The wood stain has just made the wood shine better. The stain gives the plant stand a fresh new look. This should make a nice addition to any room with a nice plant sitting on top of it.
