Bengals Football

Casey is a Cincinnati Bengals fan so she was wanted to do something Bengals related. This is going to be a nice door sign for us to welcome in the fall and football. The project started with a wood football bought at Hobby Lobby. It is very simple starting point that Casey has added some paint and personal touches to elevate a wood football into a nice eye catching door sign. Here is the original bought sign.

This is the football Casey started with. We decided to go with 3 different colors to paint the football. Since this was a Cincinnati Bengals designed, it was an easy choice of orange, black and white to paint the football.

These were bought at Hobby Lobby along side the wood football. We decided to use the white to paint the laces of the football and the two side stripes. The orange was painted into the middle of the football. The black was used for the two sides as well as the letters that we decided to add to the project after we got the football painted.

Here is the football painted. Casey used some tape to paint the two side stripes to keep a nice straight line without getting the paint mixed. On the laces, however, Casey had to paint free hand. She used the smallest brush we had to try and keep a nice edge on both the white and orange paint. The football at this point is fine but Casey wanted to really make it a Bengals sign with an added bit of flare.

She went out and bought some wood letters. We tried laying down Bengals across the football but there was not enough room. She quickly thought of WHO DEY, which is a fan chant of the Bengals for those unaware. Casey painted the letters black since they would be going into the orange paint area and the contrast would help to make the letters pop.

We looked at how the letters were going to look without the paint to make sure it looked good. After being satisfied the letters were going to work, Casey painted them black to contrast with the orange paint in the middle of the football. Casey is adding a layer of clear coat for some water protection since we do plan on putting this outside on the front of the house or door.

After the clear coat then the finishing touches have to be added. A piece of twine is being hot glued to the back so we can hang the sign. Casey is gluing the letters to the front using a glue gun as well.

This is the finished sign. The twine and letters are hot glued on. The colors give a good contrast on the wall making the sign pop. It is going to be a nice addition to our house right before football season.
